Research Center

The Chinese Business Research Center
In the last two decades the Chinese economy has become a force to be reckoned with. Numerous leading manufacturers have been positioning themselves in China, the so-called “factory of the world,” and the vast market it offers for consumer goods has gained it international attention.

Because of Korea’s proximity to China and the cultural and historical ties between them, exchanges between the two nations have increased dramatically in recent years. Korean manufacturing and distribution companies in particular have made deep inroads in China. The Chinese Business Research Center was founded to support Korean companies active in China as they establish efficient management strategies and strive for competitiveness in the Chinese market.
Activities
The Center’s activities include in-depth research on the Chinese market and economy, surveys of the management status and strategies of Korean companies active in China, and studies of government support for Korean companies active there.

Yonsei Knowledge Science Research Center
Mission and Vision
Knowledge science, a new methodological field in the study of management, examines the application of various soft-computing technologies to managerial decision-making. This center, established to conduct research in knowledge science, explores the use of various intelligent reasoning systems of soft computing-including rule-based systems, case-based systems, fuzzy-reasoning systems, genetic algorithms, artificial neural networks, and machine-learning algorithms-to solve business problems. Because Korean scholars, students, and business firms are generally unfamiliar with this new field, the center has the secondary purpose of informing and educating them, in particular in terms of the use of heuristic reasoning to address non-programmed decisions of business firms, i.e., unstructured managerial problems with dynamic and/or organized complexity.
Activities
  • Development of soft-computing cognitive models with practical applications-that is, intelligent reasoning systems for managerial problem solving.
  • Hybrid application of various cognitive models, providing decision-support systems to business firms.
  • Collaboration with other research institutes, including publication of books and articles related to soft computing.
  • Support of academic research group activities: soft-computing research by graduate and undergraduate business students, and education programs for business students and businesspersons.
