Introduction
Introduction
The undergraduate business program has been a flagship for Yonsei University since its inception in 1915. The program has produced many distinguished business leaders, government officials, and academic leaders, and gained the reputation as the first and the best undergraduate business program in Korea. The program serves high-caliber high school graduates all over Korea who have great potential to become creative future business leaders in the global market. Students admitted to YSB are normally in the top 1% to 2% of all high school graduates (approximately 550,000 students) in Korea, according to Korean SAT scores. For example, 75% of YSB freshmen who have been admitted for the regular admission process in December 2007 (for 2008 academic year) fall in the top 0.04% of all high school graduates of the year. Female students account for 35% of the undergraduate student population, and international students are about 2% of the undergraduate enrollment, representing seven countries. Until 2005, the YSB undergraduate student quota was fixed at 334 students per year. In May 2005, the Ministry of Education and Human Resources Development reduced freshmen quota for the universities in metropolitan cities to reduce excessive concentration in the cities. Thus, the undergraduate student quota for YSB has been reduced to 319 students in 2006 and then 305 in 2007.
The undergraduate program educates students to achieve intellectual and behavioral competencies that are crucial to become creative and ethical leaders with a global perspective. Undergraduate business students must complete a total of 126 credit hours: 32 credit hours of the University requirements, 48 credit hours of YSB requirements, and 44 credit hours of electives. A regular length of study is four years, but many students take a leave of absence for one or two years because of compulsory military services, or exchange student program, or study abroad program. To be consistent with the mission and core objectives of YSB, learning expectations are set for undergraduate students as shown below
